What is the most important thing your culture has given to the world?

As a new question about Portugal, we asked a student - the same which answered the previous questions, Ana Rita - to tell us what are the most important things her culture has given to the world. The first two things are decidedly important and interesting, but the last one it's kind of funny. I bet you will enjoy to read it.

Always an important issue because it can help saving lives or improve their quality, and preserve our  planet. Some inventions that I heard recently are:
  • "Plastic" bags, actually made of potatoes skin - this project was developed in Aveiro: www
  • The first medicine against epilepsy, which went on sale in 2010: www

It comes from the word "fate", and it was considered by Unesco as Immaterial heritage of humankind in 2011. It has a melancholic tone that won many people, and people will always need art.

J.K.Rowling, the author of Harry Potter, lived in Porto for some years before publishing the first volume, and there are many things that could have inspired her, as Lello bookstore, a coffee shop she used to visit a lot (Magestic Coffee), Salazar - as the character Salazar Slytherin - and the Hogwarts uniforms, very similar to some of the Universities of Porto » sources: www + www
